Curbed Seattle Invites Readers Into The Muraled Master Suite Of A Unique Wedgwood Home

By RSIR Staff |

In a recent feature on Curbed Seattle, Sarah Anne Lloyd invites readers to explore the “muraled master suite” of a charming abode in Wedgwood, currently listed by Realogics Sotheby’s International Realty broker John Madrid. As Lloyd writes, the home, which is situated just blocks from Matthews Beach, “is cute enough on the surface, with bright shutters and a collection of gables and dormers. The inside, of course, matches, full of wainscoting and hardwoods.” Yet the “crown jewel” of the home, she says, is the master suite, which offers wood paneled walls, built-ins, exposed beams, a fireplace, and a set of unforgettable murals.

A conversation with the seller reveals that the collection of murals on the ceiling panels were completed “back in the 1940s – soon after the home’s construction – by tenants as part of their payment.” At the time, the room was used as a common space rather than a bedroom, which Lloyd says helps “explain the large attached balcony and a closet that looks more like a small room, separated by French doors.”

She is quick to add, however, that the master suite “is not to undersell the rest of the house,” from cased openings that connect the living and dining, to a large kitchen perfect for entertaining. Lloyd also references the ample bedrooms with hardwood floors; separate basement entrance; and a backyard complete with a deck, patio and fire pit.
