Dance For A Cure Raises Over $107,000 For Cancer Research

By RSIR Staff |

On Saturday, May 19th, MO-DAZZ for the Arts hosted the 13th Annual “Dance for a Cure,” raising over $107,000 to benefit Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and the Pete Gross House. Emceed by popular KVI morning host John Carlson, the event was headlined by Elizabeth’s Dance Dimension in Bellevue, a nationally recognized performing group of local youth dancers aged 7 to 18. The dancers portrayed the successes and struggles of cancer patients, champions, and their families, sending the audience through an emotional journey from love, hope, helplessness, fear and finally to empowerment.

This year’s Cancer Champion was Mike Madsen, the late husband of RSIR broker Kathy Madsen, who was honored in a performance by the Dancing Daddies.

“The dancers from Elizabeth’s Dance Dimensions danced beautifully, and our family’s hearts were bursting with joy as the Dancing Daddies entered the stage to perform for the first time at this event in honor of my husband,” reflected Kathy. “A special thank you to my neighbor John Carlson, who served as Master of Ceremonies. It is so special to be part of this event, surrounded by volunteers who work tirelessly to plan the event, secure performers, and procure items for the silent and live auction. Every year just gets better and better!”

Other performers included Twisted Lemonade, a part of The Purple Lemonade Collective—a Seattle-based artist group focused on art that educates, inspires and entertains; and Spillkit, a hard-hitting rock band in which members Chris Grove, Thai Dao and Tyler Chen come together to play music that supports cancer research.
