Neda Perrina Chairs Inaugural SHINE Gala

By admin |

Earlier this month, Mary’s Place held their inaugural SHINE Gala at the Bell Harbor Convention Center. Neda Perrina, a broker with Realogics Sotheby’s International Realty, chaired the live and silent auction for the Seattle-based nonprofit. Mary’s Place was founded on the belief that no one’s child should sleep outside, and focus their efforts on helping women and families overcome homelessness. The SHINE Gala raised over $2 million from the event, half of which was raised from the auction. Sponsors, donors, and changemakers alike worked year-round to make this event a victory.

“The path out of homelessness can be long and full of challenges. The money raised at the SHINE Gala means Mary’s Place can provide 275 more beds to allow more families to start their journey out of homelessness. More children will now wake up with smiles on their faces, and not have to worry about where their next meal or winter coat will be coming from,” Perrina told RSIR.

Perrina got involved with Mary’s Place four years ago after an experience that changed her world.

One rainy evening, she pulled over on the old SR-99 viaduct to let the rain subside. As she sat in her car waiting out the storm, she noticed a cardboard box with two little feet sticking out. When she stepped out of her car, she realized it was a small family that came from Boise, Idaho in search of new beginnings. Eager to help the struggling family, she connected with Mary’s Place to find resources to get the family off the street, and knew from that moment on, she wanted to be involved more with this cause.

“My perspective was altered when I met that family and upon finding Mary’s Place, it gave me purpose. No child should ever be sleeping outside.” Perrina continues to carry out the Mary’s Place mission and is planning a coat drive for the upcoming winter months.
