Fireside Chat With Compass CEO Robert Reffkin Sparks Industry Dialogue At RSIR Bellevue

By RSIR Staff |

On March 10, Realogics Sotheby’s International Realty welcomed brokers, industry leaders, and special guests to its Bellevue office for an engaging Fireside Chat with Robert Reffkin, CEO of Compass International Holdings, the largest residential real estate ecosystem in the world, built on a vision of combining technology, data, and design to support real estate professionals and elevate the client experience.

Reffkin has become one of the most prominent voices shaping the modern real estate landscape. He founded Compass in 2012 with a mission focused on agent empowerment—a philosophy informed in part by his personal connection to the profession. His mother has worked as a real estate agent for decades, an experience that has shaped his perspective on the importance of providing agents with the tools, independence, and support needed to build successful businesses.

Better Together

The proposed merger between Compass and Anywhere Real Estate was announced on September 22, 2025, and the transaction was completed on January 9, 2026, forming the combined parent entity Compass International Holdings under the leadership of Reffkin. The deal brought together Compass’s technology-driven brokerage platform with Anywhere’s portfolio of globally recognized real estate brands, including the Sotheby’s International Realty® brand, which remains one of the marquee franchise networks within the organization. Through this structure, Sotheby’s International Realty Affiliates LLC continues to operate as the global franchisor for independently owned brokerages, including Realogics Sotheby’s International Realty (RSIR). RSIR remains an independently owned and operated company, led by Dean Jones as President and CEO, serving the Puget Sound region while leveraging the global reach and referral network of the Sotheby’s International Realty brand.

A Collaborative Gathering of Industry Leaders

Brokers and leadership from across RSIR’s six branch offices met in the Bellevue office, along with notable guests including retail hybrid partner Hill Harper, Futurecast Forum and 2026 Market Report contributor Kartik Ram, Randy Char of Las Vegas Sotheby’s International Realty, and representatives from Four Seasons Private Residences Las Vegas. An audience of more than 100 enjoyed a thoughtful conversation about the future of real estate, exploring the intersection of technology, brokerage, and the evolving role of agents in an increasingly platform-driven industry.

The afternoon also coincided with the launch of RSIR’s 2026 Market Report, reinforcing the firm’s commitment to insight-driven dialogue and leadership within the global real estate community.

Agent Empowerment as Foundation

A central theme of the conversation was agent empowerment, a principle Reffkin emphasized as foundational to Compass’s philosophy.

Rather than viewing technology as a replacement for real estate professionals, he described a future where tools enhance the work agents already do, helping them better serve their clients while strengthening the entrepreneurial nature of the profession.

In an increasingly digital landscape, Reffkin noted that agents provide far more than access to listings or information. They remain essential guides through complex financial transactions, offering perspective, local knowledge, and strategic counsel that extends well beyond the listing itself. In short, real estate professionals are not simply brokers of information; they are brokers of trust.

The Home Platform: Connecting a Global Network

During the discussion, Reffkin introduced Compass’s upcoming Home Platform, a new technology ecosystem designed to connect agents and listings across markets while supporting collaboration between brokerages.

“It’s not going to be called Compass Tech — it’s going to be called the Home Platform.”

The platform aims to connect a network of more than 340,000 real estate professionals, expanding exposure for listings while providing agents with new tools to streamline workflow, marketing, and communication.

The vision behind the platform is simple: technology should strengthen the ecosystem of agents and brokerages rather than replace it.

Technology, AI, and the Human Element

As artificial intelligence and emerging technologies reshape industries across the globe, the conversation turned to what those shifts mean for real estate.

While new tools will undoubtedly transform workflow and marketing capabilities, Reffkin emphasized that the core of the profession remains deeply human. Real estate professionals, he noted, are not simply brokers of information—they are brokers of trust.

Content, Conversation, and Leadership in a Changing Market

The event included the release of the 2026 RSIR Market Report. Jones emphasized the power of content marketing and thought leadership in real estate. He noted that the firm’s goal is to “see around the corner” and begin conversations about where the market is headed before the trends fully emerge. By publishing research, analysis, and perspectives from third-party contributors, the annual report is designed to help brokers act as trusted advisors who guide clients through uncertainty—from economic shifts and global tensions to the rise of artificial intelligence. Jones stressed that content-driven insights are meant to spark meaningful dialogue that ultimately turns into transactions.

Reffkin strongly endorsed this approach during the discussion, agreeing that real estate professionals must embrace advocacy and thought leadership in times of economic and technological change. He praised the body of work represented by the market report and affirmed that clients need informed advisors more than ever. In his view, while artificial intelligence will continue to reshape many industries, it will not replace the role of knowledgeable real estate professionals who interpret market signals, build relationships, and provide trusted guidance to buyers and sellers navigating complex decisions.

Events like this reflect Realogics Sotheby’s International Realty’s broader mission: creating a platform and dynamic venues for meaningful industry dialogue.

By bringing together leaders from across the real estate ecosystem, from brokerage executives to development partners, the firm continues to shape how the industry evolves. The fireside chat offered both perspective and momentum, reinforcing a shared belief among those in attendance. The future of real estate will be increasingly shaped by technology and platforms, but its foundation will remain the expertise, relationships, and professionalism of the agents who serve their clients every day.
