Realogics Sotheby’s International Realty And UBS To Host Futurecast Forum Webinar Recalling “The Roaring Twenties” In An Urban Renaissance For U.S. Cities

By RSIR Staff |

Executives from Realogics Sotheby’s International Realty (RSIR), UBS, and noted industry experts announced today a webinar scheduled for June 27, 2023, between 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. (PST), entitled: “MARKET WATCH – Macroeconomic, Societal, Demographic, and Generational Wealth Trends Stoke an Inflection Point for In-City Housing in a Post-Pandemic Era”. The popular discussion platform welcomes luminaries in real estate, wealth management, and other pundits to share their perspectives in a live futurecast of major U.S. cities in this timely, modern-day recall of the Roaring Twenties (a century later).

“We are elated to have assembled such an extraordinary panel of experts for this insightful and inspiring perspective on where the markets are heading so our clients can get there first,” said Dean Jones, President & CEO of Realogics, Inc. and Founder of the FutureCast Forum. “There are so many influences that will converge in the coming years, and this conversation will provide timely content for consumers to plan forward with greater confidence.”

Jones poses many questions: Will history repeat itself with another urban renaissance? Will work-from-home epitomes forever change commercial office markets? Will millennials always rent instead of buying? Will baby boomers “right-size” as they age out of empty nests? Will supply balance with demand for in-city housing? Will mortgage interest rates and inflationary pressures make affordability out of reach? Will changes in U.S. tax code and “The Great Transfer of Wealth” stimulate the economy?

The upcoming live webinar will feature the following presenters to address these questions and provide a real-time benchmark on the in-city housing markets to compare major U.S. cities:

Jones began hosting FutureCast Forums in 2018 to garner predictions from fellow market pundits as downtown Seattle was then the fastest-growing large city in the U.S., and the impacts on the economy and lifestyle trends for urbanization were unprecedented. This is also where the COVID-19 pandemic originated in the U.S. in 2020, and the in-city markets recoiled to reveal a buying opportunity not witnessed since the Great Recession. Similar trends were experienced in most major U.S. cities, which prompted Jones and others to compare the market cycles in other metropolitan areas. Together, they will explore what trends affect the urban renaissance, which now appears to be at an inflection point.

“We are fortunate to access such a deep bench of knowledge to better advise our clients as we roadmap through major decisions affecting our investment portfolio and lifestyle pursuits,” said Kurt Owen, Senior Vice President of UBS. “It’s been my experience that a confused mind oftentimes misses the window of opportunity, so we hope to provide a better understanding of the influences and considerations impacting the consumer today and tomorrow.”

The two-hour webinar promises to offer rich content from leading opinions on subjects not limited to the macroeconomy, commercial and residential real estate trends, the potential influence of Fed policies and U.S. presidential elections, and offer benchmarks for the current and projected state in in-city housing for major metropolitan areas. Qualified respondents will also offer thoughts on a survey about the market trajectory to compare perspectives and summarize the likely outcome of these influences on consumers in the years ahead.

“It’s our view that there is tremendous opportunity for buyers and sellers of global real estate given the incredible transfer of wealth through the balance of the decade,” adds Tammy Fahmi, Senior Vice President of Global Servicing and Strategy for Sotheby’s International Realty Affiliates, LLC. “What is a clear commonality is these consumers seek the guidance of qualified advisors. I’ve had the opportunity to participate in prior FutureCast Forum discussions, and I’m eager to bring this conversation to a broader audience for the benefit of our affiliate network and their clients.”

The webinar is timed with the latest release of the closely watched S&P/Case-Shiller Home Price Index, which has recently been noting an inflection point in residential real estate trends. As of the last report on May 30, 2023, the modest increases in home prices across the U.S. was accelerating, and it appeared this trend was most pronounced on the east coast, while the west coast continued to demonstrate some further weaknesses after gateway cities like Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, and San Diego had led home price gains through the COVID-19 pandemic and then became the fastest decelerating markets during the most recent market correction. Also at an inflection point, it appears that 10-year treasuries, the U.S. Inflation Rate, and Fed Bank Rate are either holding or declining.

“These are among the many considerations that we’ll explore during the webinar, noting that timing the market varies so greatly depending on the market segment and individual lifestyle and tax considerations,” concludes Jones. “Our goal is to spark conversations that will help our advisors and consumers optimize their investments. So, when the time comes to make a move, whether that’s around the corner or around the world, we can help.”
