North Tacoma is a collection of some of the city’s most eclectic and vibrant neighborhoods. Comprised of the city’s most notable neighborhoods, for the schools, the activities, the parks, and for residential homes across a variety of property types and price points, North Tacoma boasts some of the best of what the city has to offer.
Point Defiance Park is a 702-acre park that’s nestled on the northernmost tip of North Tacoma and blends into the waterfront—and that’s just to start. From Old Town to Proctor District, Ruston to the North Slope Historic District, along with the Stadium District and the University of Puget Sound neighborhood, there’s so much to explore. Each of these areas provides sights to see, delicious eats, and plenty of places to explore. While the tourists may come for the waterfront and Point Defiance’s Zoo and Aquarium (and the locals definitely enjoy it, too!) the locals know that there’s so much to do beyond the park.
Many of the area’s small neighborhoods have undergone redevelopment in recent years inviting a resurgence in restaurants and shops. Still, the community remains a mix of middle-income families, and even though it’s in the beating heart of Tacoma, those who live here experience a comfortable small-town feeling.
