In the city’s northeast corner, View Ridge has become a neighborhood where a cross-section of Seattle’s communities has come to play, relax, and live amid its parks, playgrounds, and clubs. The area’s boundaries are approximately NE 65th Street in the south, 40th and 45th Avenues NE in the west, Sand Point Country Club in the north, and Sand Point Way NE in the east. Serenely set on a hill overlooking Magnuson Park, the neighborhood was founded at the tail-end of the depression when the trees didn’t allow for any of the views its name implied. The owners clear-cut the area and continued buying up the land, and selling lots to prospective homeowners. By 1942, the neighborhood was annexed into the city. Then the view over Magnuson Park featured a Naval Air Station, which was in active use during World War II.
Now, parks are abundant throughout the neighborhood, and many of the homes boast stunning views of Lake Washington and the Cascade Mountains, as promised by the area’s name. With close proximity the University of Washington, relatively easy pivots to I-5 and SR-520, as well as waterfront recreation on Lake Washington, plus abundant activity at the Sand Point Country Club and the View Ridge Swim and Tennis Club, this sought-after locale is one of Seattle’s gems.
