Bainbridge Island Art Walk | October 1, 2021

By Alyssa Morrison |

Realogics Sotheby’s International Realty is pleased to host a series of rotating artists for the monthly Bainbridge Island Art Walk at the “Island Living Gallery”. This month, we are proud to present featured artist Elizabeth Van Liere and live music from Ranger and the “Re-Arrangers”.

Elizabeth Van Liere

Elizabeth Van Liere was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan September 11, 1940. Beth attended University High School which was a laboratory school for the University of Michigan’s School of Education. It was the beginning of her creative and intellectual life.

Attending the University of Michigan, she majored in Art and French. In 1964, she earned a Master of Arts degree and began a two-year stint teaching high school art. She had been painting steadily since graduating, but during a trip to Europe, she fell in love with the landscape of France and this became a major focus throughout her career.

In 2002, she and her husband moved to Bainbridge Island – a world away from the flatlands of mid-Michigan to one of mountains, ocean, and tall trees.

Over her career, she produced 550 paintings, drawings, pastels, acrylic sketches, lithographs, and monotypes. Her eye for color and the use of her brush was uncanny in the sureness she relived her dream of France, Northern Michigan, and Washington. She painted her last painting in 2015. She was diagnosed with a rare disease (Basel Ganglia Calcification). She was placed in memory care in late 2018 where her husband visited her every morning until the pandemic shutdown.
Two months later she passed away.

Ranger and the “Re-Arrangers”

Seattle “Gypsy Jazz” band Ranger and the “Re-Arrangers” evoke the spirit of a Paris cafe and the raucous energy of a Romani campsite with their version of Hot Club Swing. “At the heart of their sound is Ranger Sciacca’s sweet violin playing… his sense of melody and daring improvisations” (World Rhythm). The band’s repertoire includes swing standards, traditional European melodies, the music of Django Reinhardt, and Ranger’s unique originals. Learn more →
