Thought Leaders Collaborate with UW Students on For-Sale Development Trends Each Year

As a highlight of each year, on November 12, 2020, the University of Washington tapped executives of Realogics Sotheby’s International Realty (RSIR) to lead an online class of students participating in the Commercial Real Estate Certificate Program. The curriculum is developed in partnership with the UW College of Built Environments and the Runstad Department of Real Estate. For the past several years, RSIR President and CEO Dean Jones has led the three-hour class and in 2020 invited several featured guests including real estate attorney and condominium legal expert Kerry Bucklin of Bucklin Evans, PLLP as well as RSIR team members Tadashi Shiga, Executive Director of Land Development, and Sunny Tumber of Tim and Sunny Real Estate.

“We always look forward to teaching this class each year and exploring the anatomy of the condominium asset class,” said Jones. “This was a particularly interesting year amidst COVID-19 and discussion about urban flight and the future of in-city housing and density.”

Jones says hosting the class is a rewarding experience for guest speakers and students alike as the presentation covers market trends, legal and financial underwriting, design innovations, and the headwinds and tailwinds associated with condominium developments.

“I am honored to help inspire the next generation of developers explore new product types like micro-housing,” adds Shiga. “We’re chasing affordable and sustainable real estate practices in the region and innovation begins with great programs like this.”
